The CBS Interactive Audience Network will soon expand to Brightcove, making an embedded CBS News video player available even for approved smaller websites. As we reported earlier, CBS News is already available on AOL News, Comcast and YouTube. CBS representative Sandy Genelius called to tell us that their content will become available on Brightcove this summer.
Brightcove offers video content from hundreds of major and not-so-major producers, including Sky, Elle, Discovery Channel, Dow Jones, MTV, The New York Times, Reuters, Time Life, Warner Music Group, Washington Post/Newsweek, and Sony BMG.
Brightcove is definitely several steps up from YouTube, though some Brightcove partners allow ordinary users to upload videos, as YouTube does. Some Brightcove content is ad-supported, as the CBS News content will be, while other videos can be “rented” for a fee.
CBS News plans to begin by offering video from the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, The Early Show, and other CBS News programs, as well as video produced by CBS News exclusively for the Web.
