IPTV remote control for free

April 20, 2007

u-verse.jpgAT&T yesterday announced the feature to control their IPTV platform U-Verse via a mobile phone. Basically this is the same as Verizon’s feature recently announced with TiVo… except for a key difference, the AT&T offering is FREE and any accessible via any WAP compliant phone. The Verizon/TiVo offering costs $1.99 monthly and requires the download and installation of a widget to a compatible phone.

Of course the idea is to allow recording of shows you forgot about when you are away from home.

Widgets are a great idea, as i mention in the post about Orange’s widget efforts they provide a great way to offer customers differentiation from other network providers and provide additional revenue opportunities …. but from a consumers perspective getting the same functionality for free and on a simple mobile Internet interface (WAP) is much better. People might even use it!

I guess when you own both ends of the arrangement (mobile and IPTV) you can be a bit more cooperative!
